When you think about using a pressure washer, most would recognise it as a tool to get the best outcome for many cleaning tasks, but have you considered the other benefits of saving both time and money? This goes beyond the more obvious aspects, such as washing your own car instead of taking it to the car wash and can really add up over the long term, as well as making your life easier.
Here are 5 time and money-saving advantages to using a pressure washer:
Preserving the condition (and value) of your car
Washing our cars is a really important aspect of keeping them in a good state of repair that goes over and beyond the visual benefits of them looking clean and shiny. Leaving dirt particles on the paintwork for too long increases the risk of scratching, allowing salt from the roads to remain in contact with paintwork or the underside of the car leads to corrosion, and the acidic content of bird droppings and acid rain won’t do it any good either.
Regular cleaning is the only way to offset these risks and while you can go get it washed for you, you are probably likely to take greater care and get it to a more polished finish if you do it yourself (unless you pay for a high-end valet). Plus, in the winter when washes need to be much more regular, they can end up being quite expensive. Washing your car with a pressure washer is not only quick but allows you to conduct non-contact cleaning (minimising scratching) with products like snow foam and to clean underneath the car with attachments like chassis cleaners.
Therefore, in the short term, you save money on cleaning and in the long term you preserve the resale value of your car, preventing things like rust that could force you to change it earlier than intended.
Lower water bills
It sounds counter-intuitive that a power tool that uses high-pressure water would actually use less water than a hosepipe but it’s true! If you are on a water meter, this could represent a significant saving. A power washer forces water out at high pressure but only requires small volumes of water to do so. It therefore only uses 2-5 gallons per minute (GPM) compared to a hosepipe, which typically uses 6-7 GPM. That’s up to a 70% saving.
Even if you are not on a water meter, this is much better from an environmental point of view, which we can all get behind.
Longevity of garden investments
In the spring and summer, our gardens can become extensions of our homes, providing extra space for living, entertaining, and even working. We, therefore, tend to spend a lot of money on items that help us do that such as garden furniture, summer houses, sheds, and garden offices. A pressure washer allows us to keep these items in great condition and looking good.
Outdoor items are subjected to a wide range of potentially damaging weather conditions so really need some ongoing maintenance to stay looking, and functioning, properly. Cleaning them up with a pressure washer allows you to eradicate dirt, debris, and organic contaminants that would blight them and cause damage over time.
This will lengthen their useful lifespan and maximise the investment that went into them.
Reduce plant wastage
Beautiful plants really transform our gardens, but they also do an important job in supporting biodiversity, so a blooming garden is something to strive for. In order to achieve this in a cost-effective way, we need to give plants every chance to thrive and a big part of that is soil quality and healthy planting environments.
If you choose to plant in pots and containers, make sure there is no trace of anything that could compromise the survival of new plants, such as pests and disease, by giving them a really thorough clean. A pressure washer allows you to do this without using any harsh chemicals. This ensures that you get maximum value from what you spend on plants and a beautiful, thriving garden.
Clean up hard surfaces in no time
We all know that hard surfaces such as patios and decking don’t last forever and will need to be replaced eventually but when exactly this needs to happen depends almost entirely on the care you take of it. Cleaning them does more than make them look better, it eradicates contaminants that can degrade them over time. Dirt, grease, algae, mould, moss, and bacteria inflict cumulatively harmful damage and will bring forward the need to repair or replace.
A power washer deals with these substances and quickly restores your paths, drives, decking, and patio areas to former glories.
