Whether at home or at work, how clean your floor is can really shape the environment around you. A clean floor can brighten up your living room, add value to your house, and provide your staff with a comfortable, safe work environment. The problem is, there are so many different types of flooring, it can be hard to know where to start! That’s where we come in. We’ve got over 15 years of experience in cleaning and hygiene, so we know a thing or two about scrubbing floors. Read on for our complete guide to cleaning floors – we’ll cover every step of the process so you can clean even the toughest stains from any kind of floor.
How to Clean Carpets Without a Carpet Cleaning Machine
Even tough stains can be cleaned out of a carpet There are so many different types of carpet out there, what you really need is something that can clean up any stain from any carpet. We recommend our own Pro+ Carpet Shampoo, as it’s been through our rigorous testing process to ensure it can do this – bear in mind if you’re using a different shampoo, the results might be different! These steps are for people who want to clean their carpets manually. Pro+ does work with all carpet cleaning machines, so if you have one, just follow your machine’s instructions.
Step 1
Remove any animals or children from the area so they don’t get in your way. If your carpet is badly stained, use some Pretreatment Spray to soften it up and get it ready for a proper treatment.
Step 2
Mix your Pro+ with some water. You’ll need around 30-50ml for every litre of water, depending on how dirty the carpet is. You can scale this measurement down if you don’t need a litre of solution, so for example, if you only want to use 500ml of water, you’ll only need 15-25ml of Pro+.
Step 3
Apply the solution directly onto the carpet using a sponge, brush, or spray. Leave it to dry. How long this takes will vary depending on the thickness of your carpet. Keep children and animals away from the area until the carpet is dry (we can’t help you with that one!).
Step 4
Vacuum the area to finish and you'll be left with a carpet that looks brand new! Once the area is dry, wipe or vacuum it to be left with a beautiful, clean carpet!
Step 5
If your carpet was stained with a bodily fluid (such as sweat or urine) and you didn’t clean it up quick enough, you could be left with a musty, salty smell that lingers in your house even after you’ve cleaned. If this is the case, pick up some Odour Attack! detergent and move on to Step 6.
Step 6
Mix the Odour Attack! with water. Use between 20-50 parts of Odour Attack! for every 1 part of water. If the smell or stain is really bad, you can use it neat.
Step 7
Spray or sponge the solution onto the soiled area. Odour Attack! contains unique enzymes that break down the natural causes of urine smells which other cleaners might miss. Leave the carpet to dry completely while the enzymes go to work on that foul odour.
Step 8
Once dry, vacuum the area. Now you really are left with a beautiful, clean carpet and a fresh citrus scent!
How to Clean Ceramic Tiles
Tiles don't absorb dirt, but grout does Ceramic tiled floors are incredibly common because they’re waterproof, durable, and they don’t stain. However, that’s not to say they don’t still need cleaning! Dirt and grime will still build up on them, and while the tiles themselves don’t absorb grime, the grout that seals them together certainly does. Cleaning ceramic tiles isn’t a glamorous job, so to ensure it involves as little scrubbing as possible, use some Grout Cleaner and follow the steps below. It’s best to do this regularly to make sure you don’t get stains ground in.
Step 1
Spray the Grout Cleaner onto your tiles straight from the bottle.
Step 2
Leave the area alone for 10-20 minutes, depending on how dirty your tiles are.
Step 3
Rinse the area off with clean water or wipe it down with a sponge.
Step 4
If you’ve got some really stubborn grime that won’t come out of your grout, leave it another 10 minutes then apply a second spray of Grout Cleaner. Leave it for 20 minutes again, but this time, use an old toothbrush to scrub those stubborn stains out of the grout before you wipe it clean.
How to Clean Laminate and Hardwood Flooring
Make sure you don't use too much water when washing wood floors. Puddles can cause the wood to warp and crack Laminate flooring is increasingly popular as it’s relatively cheap to buy, can come in a variety of patterns, and it’s really low maintenance. Laminate flooring doesn’t stain, and unlike ceramic tiles, it doesn’t have any grout or sealant around it to worry about either. In fact, it’s so easy to clean you don’t really need any special products for it. Just make sure you clean up any spills with the steps below as soon as you can and you’ll be fine. Hardwood floors are similar to laminate, except they’re a bit less processed and don’t have the protective laminate coating. This means you need to take a bit more care with your hardwood floors, but the process is largely the same.
Step 1
Take a bucket of warm, but not hot, water and a mop. Water is less likely to leave streaks on your floor, and it won’t damage the protective coating covering it either!
Step 2
Wring out the mop thoroughly so it isn’t dripping wet (leaving puddles to form on your laminate or wood floor is a bad idea) and mop your floor.
Step 3
Dry your floor with a clean rag or cloth. It’s that easy!
How to Clean Vinyl, Marble, and Other Hard Flooring
Hard floors are easy to clean with a steam mop When wood isn’t a concern, we recommend using a steam mop to clean hard floors. Combine a decent steam mop with our Pro+ Steam Detergent and your vinyl, marble, or hardwood floor will look spotless in no time flat.
Step 1
Mix 1 part of Steam Detergent with 4 parts of water and load it into your steam mop.
Step 2
Follow your steam mop’s instructions! Pro+ Steam Detergent actually helps prevent limescale from building up inside your steam mop, so it’s good for the mop as well as the floor.
Step 3
Leave the floor to dry. Keep animals and children away from the floor until it’s completely dry. After the affected area has dried out, it’s perfectly safe.
