Nobody really wants to think about their home or garden being flooded but when it comes to protecting your property from the huge damage that unwanted water can inflict on it, it pays to be prepared. Whether you have already experienced some kind of flooding, live in a flood risk area, are concerned about flooding increasingly caused by climate change or just have hot tub or pond you need to empty, a submersible pump is a very sensible thing to buy.
How do submersible pumps work?
Submersible pumps, AKA sump pumps, work by being fully submerged in the water you want to move, pushing it out through a hose to the surface where it can be directed somewhere safe for disposal such as a drain.
They are a great alternative to other types of pumps as they are low maintenance, energy efficient, don’t require priming, and don’t risk running dry. We offer a range of sump pumps that are suitable for different applications. All Pro-Kleen sump pumps come with a float switch and have a waterproof rating of at least IPX8 (so safe to a depth of 7 metres).
Here is a selection of pumps that offer you a great choice depending on your need and your budget:
Pro-Kleen Submersible Water Pump 400W with 10m/25m Hose
At just £49.99, this is great value for money. It’s suitable for clean or dirty water up to a particle size of 35mm, which means it can handle the types of contaminants you’re likely to see in floodwater or pondwater such as dirt, stones, leaves, or sand.
The 400W motor is at the lower end of the scale of sump pump motors but that still gives you a flow rate of 8,000 litres per hour. When you consider an average 4 seater hot tub only holds around 1,250 litres, you can see how quickly it would drain it. This model will drain down to a depth of 11.5cm.

Pro-Kleen Submersible Water Pump 750W with Heavy Duty Lay Flat Hose
This pump is more robust than the model above with a 750W motor and a flow rate of 14,000 litres per hour so it’s well capable of emptying large bodies of water quickly and efficiently. It comes with a professional quality heavy duty hose which can handle 8 bars of pressure as well as hot or cold water, is safe up to a depth of 8 metres, and also has a particle rating of 35mm. This means that it can handle even the toughest and dirtiest of tasks. This model is priced at £69.98.

Pro-Kleen Stainless Steel Submersible Water Pump 1100w with Heavy Duty Hose
This pump is another step up in terms of capability on the previous two pumps. It has an even more powerful motor at 1100W which has a huge flow rating of 18,000 litres per hour. The copper pump mechanism is highly resistant to rust and corrosion and will give the pump a long lifetime. Finally, it has a stainless steel shell so it’s really tough and also means that it can be easily transported in a vehicle and won’t easily damage. All in all, these features mean that it’s a professional-grade pump suitable for heavy duty jobs and frequent use. This pump is priced at £79.99.
