If you have bought a pressure washer with an accessory kit, or just want to know how to get the best from yours for different types of jobs, here is a guide to the common tasks we use pressure washers for and the attachments that will allow you to do them better and with greater ease.
Cleaning the car
Pressure washers are invaluable for getting your car really clean and there are several attachments that can really help you with different aspects of it.
Snow foam lance
Snow foam is a pre-clean treatment that clings to the surface of the car and breaks dirt down prior to applying car shampoo. It requires a snow foam lance to work as the specialist lance agitates the liquid foam and produces the thick consistency needed to cling and retain contact for the required time.

Buy NowBrush attachments
You can get a range of brush attachments including fixed brushes (stay in one position), rotating brushes (rotate as they clean), and cleaning brushes (allow detergent to be sprayed through the brush). Useful for flat or curved surfaces, they’re ideal for removing stubborn dirt from cars.
Under-chassis
The underneath of your car gets the dirtiest, for obvious reasons, but it’s hard to get to. An under-chassis attachment has jets mounted on wheels which allow you to run the lance right under the car, where it directs the jets of water up onto the chassis.
Right-angle lance
A right-angle lance can also help you get underneath the car as the lance has a 90° turn at the end, which allows you to direct water upwards. This can also be useful for cleaning the roofs of higher vehicles such as SUVs and vans.
Cleaning at height
Overstretching is one of the most common causes of accidents when doing jobs around the home as you can easily lose your balance. These attachments minimise the risk by making cleaning at height, or areas you can’t get as close to, much easier.
Telescopic lance
This is an extendable lance that can give you up to 10 metres extra length. Because you can vary the length according to your needs, it’s very flexible. Good for cleaning roofs or guttering.
Extension lance
An extension lance is literally an adapter that fits between the existing lance and the pistol grip handle. This gives you up to around 40cm extra length.
The right-angle lance, as mentioned in the car cleaning section, can also help with cleaning at height.
Patio cleaning
One of the most common applications for pressure washers is for cleaning hard surfaces in the garden such as patios and drives. The following attachments make this much easier and more effective.
Patio cleaner
These attachments focus the water onto a specific, confined area. Not only does this give it a deeper clean as more of the water will be directed where it’s needed; it also minimises mess.

Buy NowDetergent bottles
While water pressure alone is good enough for many jobs, some tasks do require extra cleaning power and patios can certainly be one of them – especially if you need to remove things like algae or black lichen which can’t be cleaned without specialist products like black spot remover. Detergent bottles allow you to add cleaning products or chemicals to the water jet and, unlike an inbuilt tank, are easily removable and interchangeable if you have several jobs to do.
Multi-purpose attachments
Of course, there are other attachments that have several applications, such as nozzles which create different spray patterns, suction hoses that enable you to make use of collected rainwater, or other static water sources, rather than using mains water, and hose extensions for jobs further away from the water source.
